Why not?  Hockey is a tough, hardnosed sport. We wear helmets and carry sticks.  When we're bad we're sent to the penalty box - the sin bin - for 2, 4 or 10 minutes.  What other sport jails its miscreants?  In basketball, when a player fouls out, they get a rest on the bench.  In soccer, ditto.  In football, they often get to stay on the field.  In bowling, the ball goes in the gutter, not the bowler.
